Joey Beauchamp’s Death – Former West Ham winger Passed Away at the Age of 50

Joey Beauchamp’s Death: So Sad, former Oxford United and West Ham winger Joey Beauchamp passed away at the age of 50 on February 19, 2022.

After a loan spell at Swansea, the late Oxford-born ace earned his big break with his hometown club in the early 1990s. His performances for the U’s earned him a club record £1.2 million transfer to Premier League West Ham United.

At Upton Park, though, he did not stay long under manager Harry Redknapp. Beauchamp notoriously couldn’t take the traffic on his daily commute from Oxford to East London, and he left the Hammers after only 58 days and without making a competitive appearance.

Swindon Town paid £800,000 for him, alongside defender Adrian Whitbread, and he spent the 1994-1995 season at the County Ground.

When Beauchamp returned to Oxford in November, the temptation of the home was once again too powerful for him.

Over the next seven years, he appeared in over 230 league appearances for the team. His professional career, however, came to an end in 2002 when he was forced to quit due to repeated physical issues.

He did, however, score a goal in his final game for Oxford City against Exeter City. Beauchamp then joined Abingdon Town in the non-league, where he played with his brother Luke, before eventually joining Bletchingdon. He is largely regarded as one of Oxford United’s best footballers of all time.
