Art LaFleur is dead, ‘Sandlot’ and ‘Field of Dreams’ actor, dead at 78 – Obituary


Art LaFleur, an actor famous for playing Babe Ruth in The Sandlot, died after a 10-year struggle with Parkinson’s disease. He is 78 years old.

Lafleur’s wife Shelley confirmed the news on social media on Thursday. TMZ was the first to report this news.

“This guy… After 10 years of fighting against the typical Parkinson’s disease Art LaFleur, the love of my life has passed away,” she wrote in a Facebook post with a photo of the couple.

“He was a generous and selfless person who continued into his acting career, but more importantly, he was his family and friends,” she wrote, and later added, “I’m very lucky to be with a 43-year-old It is related to someone who cherishes me and admires. Art is more important than life, and it means the whole world to us.”

The Sandlot is not the only baseball movie in LaFleur’s repertoire. Prior to this, he played the head of the Black Sox in “Dreamland” as Gandir, the leader of the Black Sox.

He is also known for playing the role of the tooth fairy in chapters 2 and 3 of “Santa Claus”.

His other works include The Rig, House Hunting, Death Warrant, Man of the House and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

In addition to his respected film career, he has also appeared in numerous TV shows, including MAS*H, Lou Grant, Soap, Webster, A-Team, Hill Street Blues, Thirtysomething, Northern Exposure, Home Improvement, Malcolm in The Middle, Doogie Howser, Coach, The Incredible Hulk, Baywatch, ER, JAG, House and The Mentalist.

Shelley said that through his role, her husband “brought laughter to many people.”
