Carol Jenkins Death – Obituary, Cause Of Death

Carol Jenkins Barnett American philanthropist Died At 65

Carol Jenkins Barnett has passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 age 65. Carol was an American philanthropist and businesswoman, the daughter of George W. Jenkins, the founder of Publix Super Markets. Jenkins Barnett served as president of Publix Super Markets Charities and as a member of the board of directors of Publix Super Markets.

Barnett for her part was worth $2.1 billion at the time of her death, Forbes estimates. She spent her career at Publix, where she began working as a cashier at 16 years old and later joined the company’s board of directors and what would become the Publix Super Markets Charities. In 1989, when her father suffered a stroke, she was appointed to chair the company’s charity’s board. Jenkins died in 1996.

Barnett began working as a cashier at Publix in 1972, eventually serving on its board of directors for 33 years, the company said. She was known in Lakeland — where Publix is based — for her philanthropic work, including financial support for the United Way, the founding of Bonnet Springs Park in Lakeland, a pavilion for women and children at Lakeland Regional Health, and many other organizations.
