The 48-year-old actor was taken to hospital immediately after his injuries. No one else was injured in the accident.

A garbage collector on duty at the time told how Dieser hit the back of a parked dump truck.

“Nagdadakot kami kasi dito, sir, e. Galing ho siya doon, bumubulusok, ‘pag bangga niya diyan nagulat na lang kami. Napatakbo nga kami, kasi akala ko an’ng nangyari. E, nakita ko na lang na bumangga na siya diyan ,” Nilo Villanueva was quoted in an interview with Unang Balita.

Meanwhile, a barangay peace and security official said Ocampo was from his business partner who was allegedly drunk.

An investigation is ongoing, and Diesel’s camp has yet to issue a statement.

The accident happened just before 1am on Friday, February 4, ABS-CBN News reported. Diesel hit a garbage truck while driving his SUV on the southbound lane of the freeway. Garbage trucks are temporarily parked on the side of the road while their personnel collect garbage.

The Philippine Red Cross immediately transported the injured actor on a stretcher to the Makati Medical Center. Diether’s SUV’s hood and bumper were damaged after the crash.

According to the Teleradyo report cited by Inquirer News, Responder Joey Alicante said Diesel appeared to “refuse” to be taken to the hospital by Red Cross personnel.

“Naka-hazard naman ‘yung dump truck. Hindi niya siguro napansin…. positive po, nakainom,” Alicante is part of the Bantay Bayan in Barangay Pio del Pilar, he said. (The dump truck was in danger. Diesel probably didn’t notice…that’s for sure, he was under the influence of alcohol.)

As of Friday, the incident was under investigation.

In a statement Saturday, February 5, Diesel explained that he was driving home when he crashed into the truck.

“I am relieved that no one else was injured, and I deeply apologize for any inconvenience caused to me by the unfortunate accident, especially for the other party,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude for keeping only the bruises and bumps on the head.

He also thanked those who helped him at the scene, the Philippine Red Cross staff who transported him to the hospital, and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Makati Medical Center where he was treated.
