Gavin Escobar and Chelsea Walsh dead, climbers found death near Idyllwild, Cause Of Death

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Coroner has confirmed that two rock climbers died Wednesday in a remote area near Idyllwild, where they were reported to be in distress.

Chelsea Walsh, 33, and Gavin Escobar, 31, both of Huntington Beach, were found dead near Tarquez Rock in the San Bernardino National Forest. Two people were injured in a climbing accident around noon Wednesday, Cal Fire said. Firefighters went to the scene and found both men dead.

A weather system producing rain and thunderstorms moved through the area earlier in the day, but so far the weather has not been considered a factor in the fatalities.

Earlier this year, a hiker died on Tarquez Peak, also in the San Bernardino Forest, after an apparent fall onto rocks and remote terrain. In July, a hiker was injured on a trail east of Pine Cove near Idyllwild, requiring firefighters to drag her off the summit.
