Grammy Winning Songwriter James Mtume Cause Of Death How Did He Die?


Jazz and R&B musician and Grammy Winning Songwriter, James Mtume, has sadly died at 75. The news has resulted in his fans and well-wishers shaken. James Mtume son Faulu Mtume confirmed the artist passing on social media. Lisa Lucas, the daughter of the late creative partner of Mtume Reggie Lucas, took to Twitter and expressed her sadness upon his sudden demise too. She wrote “So much loss, so much grief” and addressed the musician as his late father’s partner in crime along with the co-creator of the songs of her life. Lisa added that James was an essential part of her life.

Lisa Lucas further said that she will dearly miss her uncle. Ever since the news was announced, several tweets have been made about the late musician. Various celebrities are condoling his death and are paying him heartfelt tributes. The artists who mourned the songwriter include Talib Kweli, DJ Premier, and many more. Questlove thanked Mtume for all the love, respect and wisdom that he showed him and his brothers over the years. Amidst tributes and RIP messages, one thing that is being searched is James Mtume cause of death. However, it has not been revealed yet.

Who Was James Mtume?

Born on January 3, 1946, in Pennsylvania in the US, James Mtume was a songwriter, activist, radio personality, American jazz and R&B musician and a record producer along with an activist. The artist got recognition as a jazz musician when he started working with Miles Davis in 1971. From that year to 1975, he began getting known. R&B group of Mtume which is also known as Mtume rose to popularity after the release of the song “Juicy Fruit”. It witnessed huge popularity at that time and became an instant hit. With the single “You, Me, and He”, the band had a top-five R&B hit as well.

When James was a teenager, he was dreaming of becoming a swimmer. He also went ahead to win the first black Middle Atlantic AAU champion. Later, in 1966, James went to California based Pasadena City College on a scholarship in swimming. While being a student of the aforementioned college, James joined the US Organization, a black nationalist group founded by Maulana Karenga and Hakim Jamal, in 1966. Further, in 1969, he left the organization and went ahead to make two albums with the intention of merging culture and jazz. He passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022, and was 75-year-old at the time of his death.
