Another tragic news is coming forward where it is reported that the popular singer Ralph Tavares has died at 79. The news gets even more saddening when it is known that the singer could have celebrated his 80th birthday some days later. After the news was announced, several fans of Ralph took to social media to express their sadness. They mourned the sudden demise of the musician and paid him heartfelt tributes too. One user wrote that it’s really shocking for the entire Cape Verdean Community. He asked the singer to rest among ancestors.

One user who seemed to be Ralph’s friend wrote that his mother did the singer’s hair two weeks ago and added how his friend wanted to take their Cavacas home and that it was before he did a gig in Florida at Hard Rock cafe with his brothers opening for the Jacksons. The user concluded his post by writing “Heaven has gained an angel.” However, amidst all the tributes, people are also searching about Ralph Taveres cause of death. Well, it has not been revealed that what took his life this early.

Who Was Ralph Tavares?

Born on December 10, 1941, Ralph’s real name was Ralph Edward Vierra Tavares. The vocalist came to prominence in American R&B, funk and soul music group named “Tavares”, also known as Tavares Brothers. The group was composed of five Cape Verdean-American Brothers. The singer rose to popularity after his hit track “Must Be Missing An Angel”. He was born and raised in Rhode Island before moving to Massachusetts. Ralph has ten brothers and among them, he was the fifth one.

Ralph Tavares worked with his four younger brothers named Pooch, Butch, Tiny, and Chubby, in the band Tavares where they managed to attain success. Some of their hit songs included Never Had a Love Like This Before and more. The band began to perform in 1959 with a different name that was Chubby and the Turnpikes. However, after a stint in the Army, Ralph joined the band in 1965.

Later, the brothers changed the group’s name and in 1975, they got their first number one with R&B hit with Hall & Oates’ She’s Gone. The group witnessed huge success in 1975 as their songs topped the R&B chart. After that, the band gave back to back hits including Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel, Whodunit, and Don’t Take Away the Music. The brothers sang for the first time after 37 years on stage in 2013 as they were honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards. In 2014, they were also included in the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame.
