Isaac Juma dead, Man, 27, arrested in connection with Isaac Juma’s death

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the death of Harambee Stars and AFC Leopards superfan Isaac Juma. Juma was hacked to death at his home in Mumias West, Kakamega County, on the night of Wednesday, January 26.

Police have identified Milton Namazi as the suspect in Juma’s death. He was the neighbor of the deceased. Juma’s wife, Farida Juma, told The Standard her spouse was attacked by two panga-wielding men at 9pm on Wednesday.

Police said the attack occurred after Juma had dinner with his family. On Thursday, January 27, DCI tweeted: “However, his teenage son escaped to the farm and narrowly escaped death.” Farida claims her husband was killed in a land dispute, claiming police are investigating.

Last April, Juma said one of his next of kin wanted to take the two acres of land he inherited from his parents.

“Whenever I leave Kakamega for a sporting event, they usually try to transfer the land title to their name,” he said at the time.

“I stood my ground and protected my land. As a result, I received countless death threats. At one point, those who were staring at my land created and spread a rumour that I was dead. They did everything. Probably trying to grab and sell my land,” he said.

Juma said five of his cows were stolen and sold in 2019 while away from home to cheer on Harambee Stars.

However, he made no formal complaint about the threat to his life or the theft of the cow.

He was the third born in a family of four siblings and is survived by two wives and ten children.

The late Juma was a regular in the stands, dancing lively and painted in the star of Haramby or AFC Leopards. His choice of painting depends on which of the two teams is on the field that day.

On a few occasions, whenever the Harambee Stars played, he would bring the Kenyan flag to the stadium.

Before switching to the AFC Leopards, Juma was a supporter of the Kakamega Homeboyz.

He will be buried at his home in Ebuyenjere village, South Wanga, after the family completes funeral plans.
