Jedine Carr was shot and killed by a bullet from a gunman on Friday as she was traveling to her football training. Carr was part of the Jamaica Under-15 team that traveled to China in 2018 to participate in the Chinese Football Development Exchange Programme. She also played for St Thomas, Yallahs High, and most recently played with Proven Girls Academy in the ISSA 2022 Construction Cup. The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) is deeply saddened by news of her death.
Michael Ricketts, president of the Jamaican Football Federation, asked Jamaicans to stand up to crime and fight for a better future. Jedine was killed by gun violence when she was doing everything right and making plans for her future. We are losing too many talented young people because of crime, and it seems that many people are accepting it as it gets worse.
Our deepest condolences go out to Jedine’s family, teammates, and the St Thomas Football Association. Not only did Ricketts offer his condolences to Carr’s family, friends, and colleagues in the football community, he also asked that people be strong during these hard times,” said Ricketts.
“Jedine was insured under the Jamaica Athletes Insurance Program (JAIP), so we will begin the process of providing death benefits,” Minister Grange continued. Two men shot Carr dead along the Lloydsville main road in Yallahs, St. Thomas, on Friday afternoon.
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) said that Carr was part of the under-15 football team that traveled to China in 2018 to participate in the Chinese Football Development Exchange Programme. She played under-15 football for St Thomas, and was a member of Yallahs High, who participated in the aborted ISSA schoolgirl competition in 2020. Carr was reportedly on her way to football training when she died in the accident. Her last games were with the Proven Girls Academy in the 2022 ISSA Construction Reinas Cup, according to the JFF.
