Justus Rosenberg Death, Beloved Professor With a Heroic Past – Obituary – cause of death


Freedom fighter Varian Frye once saved hundreds of people from the Nazis. He received help, including from Justus Rosenberg.

He now he has passed away at the age of 100. Rheinbeck. Justus Rosenberg, who helped freedom fighter Varian Fry rescue hundreds of people from the National Socialists, has died.

The New York Times quoted his wife Karin as saying Thursday that Frye’s last surviving assistant had died at the age of 100. Bard College, where Rosenberg taught to the end, also confirmed his death. That’s why the language arts teacher turned 100 in January and only published a book about his relationship with Fry last year, passing away with his family on October 30.

Rosenberg was born in Gdansk in 1921. His parents were unemployed Jews and the family’s language was German. Before the Nazis, Rosenberg fled to France, where he went to school and university.

Through acquaintances, he finally met Frye (1907-1967), an American journalist in the south of the country, and immediately hired him to help build his rescue network, through which he hoped to allow hundreds people fled the National Socialists. For example, the philosopher Hannah Arendt, the artists Marc Chagall and Max Ernst, and the writers Heinrich and Golo Mann.
