Muhammad Ziauddin death – Obituary, Cause Of Death


Muhammad Ziauddin, a veteran journalist and former Dawn staff member, died in Islamabad on Monday after a long illness. He is 83 years old.

The State Broadcasting Corporation Pakistan Television confirmed the news and paid tribute to the deceased, thanking him for his “brilliant career” that spanned 60 years, including his great contributions to various media such as international news, dawn and Tribune Express. He is also the former resident editor of The Dawn in Islamabad.

Ziauddin received a master’s degree in journalism from Karachi University in 1964. Later in the same year, he entered the industry and became a cub report in Pakistan’s international press.

Subsequently, he joined Dawn, his longest established association, serving as the resident editor in Islamabad and Lahore. From 2006 to 2009, he was also the correspondent of the newspaper in London.

Among other experience in this field, he served as the Assistant Secretary-General of the Federation of Pakistani Federation of Journalists, and from 2002 to 2006, he served as the chairman of the South Asian Free Media Association.

One of the “Pioneers of Economic News”

The press and media circles in the country expressed their condolences, and various figures expressed their condolences.

Mubashir Zaidi, the host of the Dawn News show Zara Hat Kay, called Ziauddin “the idol of Pakistani journalism.”

Another reporter, Nasir Jamal, said: “He is one of Pakistan’s best and most honest journalists and one of the pioneers of economic journalism. He is always very friendly to our descendants.”

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said he was one of the most “capable [and] very independent journalists” he had encountered.

The Minister of Human Rights Shireen Mazari also remembered that he was “a man of principle, polite in discussions and debates, and never adopted a condemning tone.”

Veteran reporter Hamid Mir said that Ziodin is one of the few journalists with practical experience spanning half a century. “We learned a lot from him.”
