Patrick Shai dead, Veteran actor and activist has passed away

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob visited his predecessor at 5.35pm, fueling earlier rumours that Dr Mahathir was in critical condition.

Dr Mahathir served as Prime Minister of Malaysia for a total of nearly 24 years in two different terms, leading the Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan (PH) governments. He is the country’s longest-serving prime minister.

He has a history of heart disease and has had three heart attacks – one in 1989 and two in 2006.

He underwent quadruple bypass surgery in 2007.

Dr Mahathir remains active in politics, leading his own opposition party, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air, and serving as MP for the Langkawi constituency in Kedah.

Dr Mahathir was last admitted to the IJN in 2018 for a chest infection before being admitted to hospital last month.

Shai’s career spanned decades and included starring in legendary productions such as Bophelo Ke Semphekgo, in which he played the role of Nkwesheng before actor Seputla Sebogodi took over.

He became a household name after starring in numerous TV series including Top Secret Mission, Zero Tolerance, Hillside, City of Souls and One Treasure.

Shai also has an extensive feature film resume, including Cry, Beloved Nation, and Mission Critical.

His most recent TV role saw him reunite with Sebogodi on screen for the role of Mr. Phasha in 1 Magic’s The River.

The actor recently made headlines after inviting rapper Cassper Nyovest to one of his celebrity boxing matches. In the invitation, he ended up insulting Casper’s mother, sparking a backlash.

He died three days after he issued a media statement apologizing to the rapper’s mother and SA Casper.
