First responding fire department members were able to evacuate Teresa Carroll, and Connor Carroll who were asleep during the time of the fire. Sadly, Sean Carroll who was asleep in the basement, passed away at 26 years old.”

The Thanksgiving tragedy happened around 4:45 in the morning in a house on Warren Avenue near Kensico Road. Thornwood Fire Chief James Gedris said a fire broke out in the basement of a two-story house.
When the firefighters arrived, three people in the house escaped from the fire, but a man was trapped in the basement. Gedris said he was taken to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he was pronounced dead.

Gedris said the fire was mainly contained in the basement and was brought under control shortly after 6 am. The cause of the fire is under investigation, although it appears to be accidental. He said that the smoke detector was working and the sirens issued a fire alarm to the firefighters.
Firefighters from Briarcliff Manor, Elmsford, Hawthorne, Ossining, Pleasantville and Valhalla also responded.
