Harnaaz Sandhu has made India proud as the model has won the coveted title of Miss Universe 2021 after two decades. Yes, it’s a proud moment for the country since Harnaaz has brought the crown home after 21 years. With that, Sandhu has become the third woman from Indian to be crowned the title. So far, only two Indian women have worn the crown including actors Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000. Undoubtedly, the entire nation is celebrating her victory and are sending her congratulatory messages and wishes.
It was the 70th edition of the event that was held on December 12, 2021, in Eilat, Isreal. After qualifying the top 2 rounds, Harnaaz was asked what advice she would give to young women on how to deal with the pressures they face today. Harnaaz responded saying the biggest pressure the youth has been facing today is to believe in themselves. She added that the youth is finding it difficult to accept that they are unique and this is what makes them different and beautiful.

Harnaaz said that they should talk more about the things happening worldwide and asked the youth to come out and speak for their own. Harnaaz Sandhu further replied saying she believed in herself and that’s the reason why she is standing here today. Harnaaz battled against 80 countries which included Miss Paraguay Nadia Ferreira, the first runner-up and Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane, the second runner-up. Later, she advanced to top 16, top 10, top 5, and top 3 before she was crowned the title.
Before her final question, in the top 5 round, Harnaaz was asked what would she do to convince the people who think that climate change is a hoax otherwise. Answering the question, Harnaaz said that it breaks her heart to see how nature is going through problems because of our careless behaviour. She said that it’s high time to speak less and take action more as each of our actions can either kill or save nature.

The 21-year-old added that preventing and protecting is far better than repenting and repairing. Her intelligent and on the point answer made her win the crown of Miss Universe 2021 which was presented by Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico, Andrea Meza. Chandigarh born Harnaaz said “Chak De Phatte” after winning the crown. Before winning Miss Universe, Harnaaz had been crowned Miss Diva 2021, Femina Miss India Punjab in 2019, and was a semifinalist at Femina Miss India in 2019. Born on March 3, 2000, she was born and raised in Guruharsahai in a Sikh family. Sandhu started competing in pageants ever since she was a teenager.
