D.Va is a fictional player character that appeared in the 2016 video game “Overwatch” (a first-person shooter developed by Blizzard Entertainment) and related animation and literary media.
She also appeared as a playable character in the crossover MOBA game “Heroes of the Storm” and as a game announcer in “StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void”. In English media, she is dubbed by Charlet Chung.
In the legend of Overwatch, D.Va is a professional e-sports player from Busan, South Korea, named Hana Song (revised romanization: Song Ha-na) (송하나). In Overwatch’s narrative, she and other players were recruited by the Korean government’s Korean Army Mobile Forces (MEKA) to help quell a robotic uprising, turning their video game skills into controlled weaponized mech suits.
In the game, D.Va is a tank character that can cause continuous damage and offset the upcoming attack in a short time. If D.Va’s suit is destroyed, she can eject from it and live long enough to summon a new suit. Her ultimate ability allows her to explode her suit, causing a lot of damage to all enemies in sight, enough to destroy most characters in one hit.
D.Va has been well received by critics and players, and she is regarded as an active female model for young players.
