Minnesota, in specific, witnessed riots breaking out in places at the time of the protest movement. In the month of June 2020, Mohamed Hussein Abedi was apprehended for trying to set fire to Gordon Parks High School in St Paul.

The footage of the security caught Abdi entering the high school through a broken glass gate and then pouring liquid from a white container onto the floor and a trash can. The liquid comes up to be inflammable as Abdi then proceeded to soak apparel in the same and light it on fire. He then set fire to the trash can and ran as the flames started to spread through the school premises.

Following trial, Abdi appealed guilty to his charges of conspiracy to commit arson. He was then convicted by the veteran judge David S Doty, who was appointed by Reagan decades back. As per the documents of the court, the sentence of Abdi was “imposed pursuant to the Sentencing Reform Act of 1984.” Though his conviction was considered lenient and biased by several, especially since he was ordered zero prison time.
