Her father, an MI5 officer in Bletchley Park’s Enigma project, detained Rudolf Hess during World War II. After the war, he became headmaster of Cambridgeshire Boys’ High School. In 1954, when Olivia was six years old, the Newton-John family moved to Melbourne, Australia, where her father was a professor of German at the University of Melbourne.
