The Rugby League world mourns the sudden death of Premier League manager Paul Green.
The 49-year-old died at his Brisbane home on Thursday morning. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. Friends revealed that Green was not complaining about his illness, but was shocked and saddened by his death.
He’s been a frequent coaching option at various NRL clubs this season, as one of Wayne Bennett’s assistants, and he should return as their coach when the Dolphins make their debut next season.
The news, which came three months after the tragic death of his close friend, former Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds, has shocked the wider sporting world.
Green was in Sydney last weekend for the Cronulla Sharks’ reunion.
Green played for Cronulla, North Queensland, Sydney Roosters, Parramatta and Brisbane and won the 1995 Rothman Medal. As head coach, Green led the Cowboys to their first Premier League title in 2015.
Most recently, he was in charge of the Queensland State team in 2021.
Green is survived by his wife Amanda and children Emerson and Jed.
