Who was Neil Faulkner?

Neil Faulkner was a British archaeologist, writer, broadcaster, historian, lecturer, and political activist. He was born on 22 January 1958. He was of British nationality. He completed his schooling in Tunbridge Wells. He went to Cambridge for his higher studies where he attended King’s College. He also studied at the Institute of Archaeology and the University College London. He was a school teacher ahead of becoming an archaeologist. He was also a Research Fellow at the University of Bristol. He was also a co-founder and contributing editor of Archaeology Worldwide magazine. He was an editor of Military History Matters.

He was a contributing editor of Current Archaeology and also a co-director of the Great Arab Revolt Project. On May 22, 2008, he was elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London. He was originally trained as Romanist. In the year 2016, he completed a ten-year field project looking at the military campaigns of Lawrence of Arabia in southern Jordan. He also frequently appeared on television both at home and abroad. His notable work includes Channel Four’s Time Team, BBC2’s Timewatch, and Sky Atlantic’s The British. He appeared on BBC Radio 4’s program In Our Time to discuss Lawrence of  Arabia.

He was a Marxist and a revolutionary socialist activist. In 2020, he was on the coordinating committee of Anti-Capitalist Resistance. He was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of blood lymphoma in mid-2021. Neil Faulkner passed away on 02 February 2022 from cancer at the age of 64.
