As per the sources, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe got released on 16 March 2022. She has been released and has allegedly left Iran for the UK. She is a British-Iranian aid worker who was detained for almost six years in the country after her arrest at an airport in the year 2016. She had her British passport and returned it to her this week and left Iran on a flight from Tehran airport on Wednesday, as per her family. She is a project manager with Thomas Reuters Foundation who was found guilty of plotting to topple the Iranian government by an Iranian court.

However, she always refused all allegations. Her husband, Richard Ratcliffe has been continuously campaigning for her release and went on a hunger strike in October last year to gain attention to the ordeal of his wife. Nazanin-Richard has a young daughter named Gabriella aged 6 who resides with her father in Hampstead, London. Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s detention was linked to the UK’s failure to pay a £400million debt to Iran, however, the govt insists that the two should not be connected.

Although, the govt has accepted liability for the debt, James Cleverly, the foreign office minister saying “we have a duty to legally repay this debt and we continue to explore all legal options to resolve this 40-year-old case.” Apart from this, another British national, Anoosheh Ashoori is also released from detention in Iran. He was sentenced to 10 years in an Iranian prison, he also always protested his innocence. Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was born on 26 December 1978 in Tehran, Iran. She was detained on 03 April 2016.
